Anime of the Week: Boruto - Naruto Next Generations

As an adoring fan of Naruto, it was my pleasure to watch the first episode of Boruto: Next Generations. Having seen the original trailer for the Boruto film (Boruto: Naruto the Movie) back in Summer 2015 at the Naruto exhibition in Roppongi, I knew my spirit toward the Naruto universe would remain strong with the advent of the new series. On April 5th, the new television series premiered on TV Tokyo. Here's how it's looking so far. Spoilers ahead.

Characters & Plot. Okay, so we got small glimpses of most of the original characters' offspring. Episode one focused mainly on our beloved Boruto (child of current Hokage Naruto and Hinata) and a new character by the name of Denki. Denki does not appear to be related to any well known characters from the original series, but I think he will remain relevant throughout our series because of this. Denki is the son of the head of the railroad company that has established modern Konohagakure. He represents the newness of the series and the change Konoha has undergone since the end of the original Naruto series. Denki also plays a key role in establishing the first nuances of our antagonist. (weird purple curse thing) Not to mention, and I totally gushed at this, the fact that Boruto possesses the Byakugan in one of his eyes, though this is also presented to us in the opening scene.

Art. Same style as Naruto, higher budget. 'Nuff Said.

I can't wait to see where this series goes. So far it has continued to earn my love just as the Naruto series did for so many years. Rating TBD.
